When will the Solid Waste Management Plan be adopted?
The Plan should be adopted by the County Council by the end of August.
How will route collection work for residents?
Both recycling and garbage can be left at the end of residentail driveways for collection. San Juan Sanitation, the route collection company will offer schedules and rates that suit different needs.
Will County facilities be open at all?
Orcas Transfer Station is being offered for lease. A private company can operate the station for commercial and self-haul customers with many of the same services that are there today.
The selection committee expects to have a vendor to recommend to the Council by mid-July.
The contract and change in operations are expected to be in place by the end of September.
Will the Exchange be open after the County is no longer operating the Orcas Station?
The Exchange is a private operation leasing County land. The County intends to prioritize the Exchange's use of the site.
