Prior to his election in 2006 Council Member Rosenfeld served on the Friday Harbor Town Council for six years and prior to that as Friday Harbor’s last “volunteer” Fire Chief. He also served as Station Captain for Fire District 3 at Roche Harbor before moving into Town. 

He is an artist and operates a picture framing business, Friday Harbor Art Studio. He has been executive director of The Whale Museum (‘85-87), worked in public health and was a Peace Corps Volunteer(‘65-67 Thailand malaria eradication). He has lived on San Juan Island since 1980 and is a member of the County’s amateur radio emergency service.

Howie grew up in Connecticut, graduated from UConn, sailed the west coast, and lived in Lahaina and Sausalito. “I enjoyed watching Mayor Sally Stamford at Sausalito City Council meetings. That might have inspired me.”
