State Will Assist Prosecutors in Investment Fraud

Prosecutor Randall K. Gaylord announced today that he will team up with the Securities Division of the Washington State Department of Financial Institutions on investment fraud cases.

"With all of the headlines in the past few months on financial and accounting fraud, the public has become much more aware of investment fraud. We can handle these cases with the help of the Securities Division," said Gaylord.

The Division's primary mission is to protect Washington State residents from dishonest or fraudulent practices by people selling investments. The Division accomplishes this mission through a variety of regulatory and enforcement tools, including registration requirements for securities, franchise and business opportunity offerings and licensing and examination of broker-dealers and investment advisers. It also undertakes investigations based upon complaints. The Securities Division will conduct independent investigations and may take administrative action or refer the case to the local prosecutor.

"We are pleased to have this relationship with the Washington Department of Financial Institutions," added Gaylord.
