News Release No. 2001-2
January 29, 2001

Attention Property Owners in San Juan County!

Do you have a guest house on your land and now want to build a your
principal residence? Then the Growth Board wants to hear from you.

On November 30, 2000, the Growth Board entered an order banning new guest house construction in San Juan County. It is not clear whether or not this order also bans the construction of a principal residence when the property already has a guest house on it. The County has asked the Growth Board to clarify its order.

The Growth Board has scheduled a hearing on the County's request for
clarification for 10:30 a.m. on March 6, 2001 at the Inn at Friday Harbor, 410 Spring Street, Friday Harbor, Washington. The deadline for property owners to file papers with the Growth Board to obtain permission to participate in the hearing is noon on Friday, February 9, 2001.

"The Growth Board asked us to notify all property owners who may be unable to build the main house they planned," said Randall K. Gaylord, San Juan County Prosecutor. Interested property owners should contact Shannon Calverley at the San Juan County Prosecutor's Office at 360-378-4101 to request an information packet.
