Members of a local order of nuns operated the ferry landing at Shaw Island every
day for over 27 years, rain or shine. They've now moved on, and new faces greet
ferry travelers.
Aside from narrow, empty roads and Arcadian beauty, a small grocery store at the
landing, and one park & campground at sandy Shaw County Park, Shaw Island
has no commercial amenities. Shaw has an area of 7.7 square miles. Population is
165.
