Orcas Island

Map of Orcas Island
County ParksYour exploration of Orcas Island may take you to the quaint hamlets of Deer Harbor, Westsound, Orcas and Olga. The commercial center of the island is Eastsound Village, on the north end of the island. The population is clustered in tiny havens where you’ll find hand-crafted works of art created by island artisans, small restaurants, and espresso stands featuring locally roasted coffee.

The largest and hilliest of all the islands, Orcas provided summer shellfishing grounds for the Lummi Indians until the settlement years of the 1800’s. Farming, fishing, and logging eventually became the primary areas of commerce, but remain so for only a few of today's residents. Orcas has an area of 56.9 square miles. Population is about 4,900. The Parks Department worked in concert with Orcas Open Arts and Stage on the Green to craft an amazing performance stage in the Village Green in downtown Eastsound.  The facility is now completed and available to rent. Moran State Park, the only public campground on Orcas Island, is home to Cascade, Twin and Mountain Lakes, and Mt. Constitution, the highest point in the islands (2,457 feet), where your view will extend from Vancouver, B.C. to Mt. Rainier. Contact Washington State Parks for further information, 1-360-902-8844.
